James Franco playing twins in this new series teaser is a trippy must-see
The only thing better than watching James Franco in a series is watching two James Francos in a series. In the upcoming show The Deuce, James Franco plays twins, and we’re definitely not mad about it.
Because James Franco times two is exactly what we need out of a TV show.
The Deuce is a new HBO series from David Simon, the creator of The Wire. It’s about the legalization and rise of the adult entertainment industry in 1970s New York. Franco stars as twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino. One brother is a bartender and the other a gambler, but both are serious hustlers. It’s unclear how, but they somehow get involved in the porn industry and become fronts for the mob in Times Square.
Maggie Gyllenhaal stars alongside Franco (and Franco). She plays Eileen “Candy” Merrell, an independent sex worker who transitions into becoming a sex entrepreneur in the booming porn industry.
The series explores important issues pertaining to NYC in the ’70s — such as the rise of HIV, violence, drugs, the real estate boom, and police efforts to crack down on the adult film industry.
HBO has released a teaser for the series, and if you’re a fan of Franco, Gyllenhaal, or seedy ’70s-inspired shows, you should definitely check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGomupAJBxo
Zoe Kazan, David Krumholtz, Emily Meade, Anna Glover, and Gary Carr will co-star in The Deuce, along with former Wire actors Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Chris Bauer.
The first season of the show will consist of eight episodes, and it’s set to premiere on September 10th.
