James Corden explained why “Carpool Karaoke” with Bruno Mars left him depressed

After a long wait, last night marked the first episode of the brand new Carpool Karaoke series. While he’s not set to appear in episodes besides the first and the last, James Corden revealed his favorite Carpool Karaoke segment — and also admitted that it left him a little depressed.

Corden singled out his segment with Bruno Mars as being one of the best times he’s had belting out tunes, but made sure to add that every one we’ve seen holds a special place in his heart.

"I mean, it's a bit like picking your children, you know what I mean?" he said with a laugh to Entertainment Tonight.

But what set the Bruno Mars “episode” aside is the fact that Corden was such a huge fan of the star. And we totally get it — Mars is such an extraordinary talent who also happens to have a pretty keen sense of humor.

After it was filmed, Corden said that he felt a bit sad because he was anticipating it for such a long time.

"Like, I really, I got a bit depressed afterwards," he said. "Because I'd been looking forward to it for so long and I'm such a fan. When we were done, I was like, 'Oh. I'm not gonna get to do that again,' you know, and so that was incredible."

Mars appeared to help promote his album 24K Magic. In case you missed it, or simply want to watch again, here it is.

We totally wish we could have tagged along during that car ride.

Corden’s most recent sing-along was with Will Smith, which the host said was “just a dream” for him. A 6-minute clip of the episode hit YouTube, and has already become the current #1 trending video on the site.
