Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” is being turned into a musical, because the ’90s are here to stay
Anybody who was alive during the ’90s knows how life-changing Jagged Little Pill was. It was Alanis Morissette’s album that took the world by storm and enhanced the perfect misery of our teenage years.
Good news for all you Alanis fans: Jagged Little Pill is being turned into a musical.
It’s set to premiere in May 2018 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA, so start your countdown, because this is going to be the nostalgia experience of a lifetime.
Just because it was released in 1995 doesn’t mean Jagged Little Pill will be forgotten anytime soon. The unforgettable songs to be featured include “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic,” and you probably know every word to these numbers. But this new musical won’t only feature these classic tunes.

Diablo Cody, the writer of beloved movie Juno, has written a story line that will be featured in the Jagged Little Pill musical. The story is about a “modern and multigenerational family and their complex dynamics.” Oh and, by the way, Morissette will have a hand in driving the production as well, so don’t worry. She’s involved.
“This team that has come together for this Jagged Little Pill musical is my musical-theatre dream come true, Morissette said in a statement.

“The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honored to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent,” Morissette continued. “Diablo and [director] Diane [Paulus] are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul’s marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom, and complexity.”
We can hardly wait. In the meantime, if you need us, we’ll just be listening to “Ironic” on repeat.
