We just found out that Jaden Smith is going to be our next big-screen superhero

We all loved when Jaden Smith played a superhero at his prom this year. And now it looks like he’s going to play a superhero on the big screen! As the website Comic Book reports, actor Tyler James Williams, who played the title role in “Everybody Hates Chris” and Noah on “The Walking Dead,” recently gave an interview with “Flick in the City,” in which the interviewer pointed out that “there aren’t a lot of young, black superheroes.”

In the background of the video, you can hear screams of “Spiderman!” (a role Williams confirms he is being considered for in the upcoming reboot) and “Static Shock!” (a young, black superhero with electric powers, the star of a short-lived DC Comic from the early 90’s).

“I don’t know… What you’re taking about,” Williams says in response to the “Spiderman!!!” screams. Then he smiles like he knows EXACTLY what people are talking about, which makes us think he might be pretty far down the Spiderman road. He quickly changes the subject with a “But yeah no, it’s great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden.”

We are so thrilled for Jaden to join the rest of the Smith family with their super antics. Dad Will Smith is playing Deadshot in the upcoming supervillain movie “Suicide Squad,” mom Jada Pinkett Smith plays villainess Fish Mooney in the Batman prequel series “Gotham,” and sister Willow Smith is a superhero in basically every music video she’s ever made.

We’re also celebrating diversity in superhero movies hard this weekend. Jaden’s good news comes on the tail of Michael B. Jordan’s awesome Entertainment Weekly essay about the importance of his casting as The Human Torch in the upcoming “Fantastic Four” film. And if we hear good news about Tyler James Williams playing Spiderman soon, then we’ll have a trifecta to celebrate. We want diversity in superhero movies because we want movies to be as diverse as real life. Dear Comic Book World, More news like this, please. Love, all of us.
