Jack White’s record label is going to publish the work of Standing Rock students

Jack White’s Third Man Records and Third Man Books will publish activist students’ work from the Defenders of the Water School in Standing Rock. The initiative will also raise funds for the North Dakota school.

“This is a situation that should not be viewed in isolation — this is a situation that affects us all. Water is life,” Third Man wrote in a statement.

The Third Man Books website will also showcase the work of both students and volunteers at the Mní Wičhóni Nakíčižiŋ Owáyawa school.

Jack White’s efforts to give a platform to those affected by the Dakota Access Pipeline protests at Standing Rock will spread their voices, and give them an opportunity share their experiences.

Native Americans and activists from around the country have been gathering at the camp for several months trying to halt the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The proposed 1,172-mile-long pipeline would transport oil from the North Dakota Bakken region through South Dakota, Iowa and into Illinois.

“This public forum will allow the students’ voices to be heard the world over. Third Man Books is humbled to have the opportunity to display their inspiring work and assist in spreading public awareness of the ongoing struggle at Standing Rock.”

To raise additional funds, Third Man Records is offering an exclusive Defenders of the Water School at Standing Rock tee shirt. Designed in collaboration by the school and Third Man’s Jessie Yohn, proceeds will go directly to the school and its program at the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ Camp community in South Dakota.
