J. K. Rowling got a Hogwarts fact mixed up, blames “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”
Today is September 1st, and if you happen to be a wizard or witch, this is a very important day: It’s time to hop on the Hogwarts Express and head back to school!
While muggle (or, no-maj) school start dates vary from year to year, Hogwarts has always been very firm as to when kids need to return to school. It’s September 1st, no exception, not even for those traveling by flying cars. Social media is currently lighting up with those making the journey to King’s Cross (in their minds) for the new school year.
As she’s done many times before in the past, Harry Potter scribe, J.K. Rowling also took to Twitter to wish everyone a happy year — except that she mixed up her dates and wished the WRONG child a happy first day of school.
In a now deleted tweet, Rowling wrote: If you’re at King’s Cross, the Potter, Granger-Weasley and Malfoy families are there too. Albus Severus starts school today. #19YearsLater
Except…Albus Severus doesn’t start school until NEXT year, COME ON. We’re actually only at 18 years later, since the Battle of Hogwarts took place in 1998 — as, duh, everyone knows off the top of their head, and Twitter was quick to point out.

Rowling almost immediately corrected herself, and cited the (confusing) timeline of Cursed Child for her blunder:

Looks like someone should have been paying a little bit more attention during her reading of Hogwarts, A History.
