This actor has just been cast in the latest adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books
J.K. Rowling might just be one of our favorite people in the world. While we love that she claps back at people on Twitter and isn’t afraid to speak up about issues that matter, we love her most of all for the brilliant books that she writes. We’re sure we’re not alone when we say that Harry Potter helped spark our obsession with reading, and we’ve enjoyed everything that Rowling has put out since.
While she may be busy writing screenplays and helping expand the Potter universe beyond our wildest dreams, Rowling also writes crime thrillers under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith and we LOVE them.
For those that don’t know, there are three novels in the series (The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkwork, Career of Evil), which focuses on ex-army man turned private investigator Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin as they work on a number of chilling murders from their dingy central London offices.
Within one year of the first book’s publication, it was announced that the books would be adapted by television.
The new dramas will be produced by the BBC, alongside Rowling’s production company Brontë Film and Television, and are set to start production in London this year.
Now it’s *finally* been announced who exactly will be starring in the lead role of Cormoran Strike and we’re SO excited.
Variety reports that British actor Tom Burke will be taking the role. Burke is most known for his role as Fedor Dolokhov in the BBC’s recent adaptation of War & Peace and Athos in The Musketeers.
In a statement, Burke said, “I’m overjoyed to be immersing myself in the role of Cormoran Strike, who is as complex as he is larger than life. I know I’m joining an extraordinary team of people on a series that for me is peppered with moments of real emotional depth and meticulously grounded in the page-turning momentum of these novels. Cormoran’s world is rich and raw.”
Rowling also seems pretty happy with the casting, too.
“I’m thrilled about the casting of Tom Burke, a massively talented actor who’ll bring the character to perfect life,” she said. “Cormoran Strike is pure joy to write, and I can’t wait to see Tom play him.”
According to Vulture the first instalment of the The Cormoran Strike Mysteries, The Cuckoo’s Calling, will be split across three-parts, all an hour each. The follow-up instalments, The Silkworm and Career of Evil will both be two-parts.
No official details have been released about when and where the adaptation will air in the U.S. However, given that Rowling’s last TV adaptation, The Casual Vacancy aired on HBO we’ve got our fingers crossed that it’ll eventually make it’s way over.
