J.K. Rowling wishes she could use magic to undo Britain’s “Brexit” decision
On Thursday, Britain voted to leave the European Union — an economic and political partnership involving 28 European countries — in what some are calling “Brexit.” More than anything, J.K. Rowling wishes that she was living in the world of Harry Potter so she could magic the whole thing away.
When Twitter user Joti, whose account is now protected, tweeted at J.K. to “do something” about the referendum, J.K. quoted the tweet saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever wanted magic more.” false
The United Kingdom voted on whether or not to leave the European Union amidst heated debate; those who are for Brexit argued that the country is being exploited by the EU and will become a superpower if they leave the union, while those who wished to remain pointed out that from a financial standpoint, leaving the EU will be disastrous for Britain’s economy. The “leaving” side won by a close margin — 52% to 48%, with over 30 million people voting — the highest turnout in a UK-wide vote since the 1992 election, according to BBC.
