There are rumors that Trump wants Ivanka and Jared Kushner out of the White House, and, literally, same
President Donald Trump’s first year in office has been marked by chaos, including the replacement of many of the White House’s top staffers. But one constant throughout it all has been the presence of the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, her husband. Now, reports suggest that White House officials are fed up with Ivanka and Kushner’s presence. And most recently, it was reported that even the president is seeking to remove his two family members from the White House.
The New York Times reported yesterday, March 1st, that Trump has occasionally wished Ivanka and Kushner had never come to the White House. The Times cited unnamed aides saying that the president had requested Chief of Staff John Kelly’s assistance in removing his daughter and her husband from their roles.
The report from the Times comes after Kushner’s security clearance was downgraded from top-secret to secret on February 27th. The change was made after the Washington Post reported that four countries had conspired to manipulate Ivanka’s husband. Kushner is currently a senior adviser to Trump, and until his clearance was changed, he was even able to view the president’s daily brief.

Ivanka was recently subjected to criticism, too, after she refused to comment on sexual assault allegations against her father. In an interview with NBC during her visit to the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony, she commented on her father’s proposal to arm teachers, but remained silent on the allegations, saying she shouldn’t have to answer such questions as his daughter. And many saw Ivanka’s desire to remain a daughter in some situations and a senior adviser in others as a conflict of interest.

Since the most recent reports are based on information from unnamed sources, we won’t be able to confirm how the president feels about his daughter and son-in-law’s official positions until he comments. But the bottom line is that government roles should go to those who are most qualified, not the president’s family members. Neither Ivanka nor Kushner was qualified to serve in the White House.
