Item of the Day: “Two Lies and a Spy” by Kat Carlton
In my recent search for a YA novel that wasn’t centered around supernatural creatures or life in a dystopian society, I came across the wildly entertaining, Two Lies and a Spy by Kat Carlton. And, guys? Spies are such a blast!
When sixteen-year-old Kari receives a text from her dad declaring a “Code Black” situation, she understands that life has just taken a crazy turn and she and her brother go into hiding. Her parents are highly trained secret agents that have just been accused of being traitors. She’s the only one that can save them and clear their name. So, she assembles a killer crew to complete her mission. Her crew consists of her brother, her two best friends (one a genius hacker, one a master martial artist), her crush, her crush’s sister, and a wildcard hottie that she wasn’t expecting.
Since I’m new to the YA spy game, I wasn’t sure what to expect. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to buy into it. But this story just seemed to work. It was fun, thrilling, and I was locked into every single moment of it. Also, Kari was a fabulous leading lady to root for. She gets thrown into the chaos of this situation immediately and her confidence never wavers. She just OWNS. IT.
Two Lies and a Spy is available for purchase on 9/3, and you can get your copy here. Enjoy!
