Item of the Day: Jillette Johnson’s ‘Water in a Whale’

Recently, I had the privilege of going to Bonnaroo. There were a lot of popular artists like Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore and Paul McCartney. But one of my favorite aspects of Bonnaroo is the unknown artists.

It was in the dusty, Tennessee heat that I first heard Jillette Johnson. I don’t know the best way to describe her voice. She has a bit of soul with a kind of poppy twang to her. I think you just need to listen for yourself.

Her album ‘Water in the Whale’ debuted on June 25 and is just $6.99 on iTunes! I guarantee most of your friends haven’t heard her music, so this will be your chance to be totally hipster and know her before she was ‘mainstream.’ And trust! She will be on every radio station soon.

My favorite track is Torpedo, which is coincidentally the first on the album. It has really great vocals and piano and is the perfect song to blast while driving down the highway with the windows down.

You can check her out at jillettejohnson.com. Enjoy!
