Item Of The Day: Is It Tea You’re Looking For?

I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with Lionel Richie’ video for “Hello”, but I am – It’s like a story. Our hero Lionel falls for a blind artistic high school girl, and creepily stalks her by calling her house phone with bellows of his famous, soulful “Hello”. Spoiler Alert: The girl makes a clay bust of Lionel’s head in art class, and while it looks nothing like him, he knows she feels the same! Yeah, that relationship might read as being creepy, but hey – it was the 80’s. MTV showed even weirder videos back then – when they actually played videos.

That being said, this mug – available from Etsy seller LennyMud over in my home state of New Jersey, was my ultimate favorite Christmas gift this year. In fact, I don’t remember the last time I was so elated to get a coffee mug. (Whoops – I mean tea. It was tea I was looking for.)

Here’s a bit more about the mug: Each one is hand crafted, and made out of clay (I wish this was paying homage to the video, but it’s simply how mugs are made.) It’s dishwasher and microwave safe, so Lionel’s hand-painted face isn’t going anywhere. The mug is blue on the inside, which is, in all honestly, truly beautiful in person. There’s true craftsmanship behind this thing. It’s selling for $18 bucks, which might seem a bit much for a mug, but it’s worth it when you consider the time spent making it, and the creator’s keen sense of humor.

If you want to emulate a typical weekend of mine, here’s what I’d do: Buy the mug, boil up some water for green tea, and watch Lionel’s ridiculous video – at least twice.
