Item of the Day: Blue Apron Weekly Delivery Service

As I write this, I’m just finishing up leftovers from last night’s Blue Apron meal and I’m trying to go really slowly to savour every bite because oh man, it’s delicious. If you’re not familiar with Blue Apron – like I wasn’t just a few short weeks ago – it’s a weekly food delivery service with a twist. Every Wednesday or Friday (your choice), you get a box full of all the ingredients you need to make three complete meals that are fresh, healthy and less than 700 calories per serving (and they’re BIG servings).

Let me break it down for you: when I say Blue Apron sends everything you need to make three meals, I do mean EVERYTHING. Literally all you need to have in your house is some extra virgin olive oil and the pans to cook it in. They give you everything – down to pre-measured spices, herbs and even butter. If you need onions for a recipe, you get fresh onions. Same with lemons, veggies… you get the point. I actually mean “everything”, here. Plus, you get step-by-step recipe cards that are in depth, contain tons of photos and can be kept for later (and you will want to keep them for later). Plus, the items are sourced locally when possible and Blue Apron works with family companies and specialty purveyors to get the best ingredients. Love it!

There are vegetarian and meat/seafood options, so no one’s excluded. I’m an omnivore and love my protein, and my three meals in my first box were as follows: Nettle Pasta with Shrimp and Roasted Cauliflower, Arroz Con Pollo (with fresh English peas!) and Flat Iron Steaks with Artichoke-Potato Hash, Purple Asparagus and Carmelized Shallots. If that doesn’t sound good to you, I question your sanity.

The smallest subscription option is for two people. I ate half and saved my other half as leftovers and it was just as good reheated, so I definitely suggest it. They also make boxes for four or six people, as well. The two person box runs $59.95 (give or take a few cents), which Blue Apron understands may not be attainable for everyone’s budget. Luckily, you don’t have to order a box every week! The website lists what subscribers can expect the following week in their box, and if you’re not all that into the idea, are going away on vacation or simply want to sit it out, that’s totally fine. There is no commitment and you only get the boxes you want. Please note that at the moment, Blue Apron mostly serves the East Coast and some middle states – to see if yours is one of them, check out the website.

Right, here comes the best thing of all: Blue Apron is giving the first 100 HelloGiggles readers to subscribe 30% off their first box, but ONLY if you sign up HERE. Amazing!
