We’re too terrified to watch the “It” trailer ourselves, but here it is if you’re feeling brave

Let’s be real: Clowns are scary. And if you’ve read It, from masterful scary storyteller Stephen King, you definitely get the shivers around those child party maestros. For those people who haven’t read the book (or seen the mini-series), Warner Bros. has you covered. Now, Stephen King’s It is coming to theaters, and the trailer already has us hiding under our covers.

Despite the fact that the trailer is just over two minutes, there’s enough surprises around every corner to give you all the heebie-jeebies.

A group of kids in a small, but apparently cursed, town decide to do something about the ongoing disappearances of their young peers.

But, this is Stephen King we’re talking about, so it won’t just be a story of kids solving a mystery. It’ll instead be the spine-tingling, hair-raising, goosebumps-inducing story of a creepy clown. This clown seems to always be terrorizing children. And even more nerve-wracking, it also seems fueled by some otherworldly powers.

So, yeah, the movie — like the trailer — looks pretty freakin’ scary.

The movie is directed by Andrés Muschietti, the visionary that brought us Mama. Bill Skarsgard stars as Pennywise the Clown. Pennywise makes a few cameos in this newly released trailer and he is, as expected, absolutely horrifying. Which is to say, much like his predecessor…

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen It adapted for the screen. There was a 1990 TV mini-series that brought the characters (like Pennywise, above) to life before. But the thought of seeing this iconically scary story told while sitting in a dark theater for two hours is certainly not for the faint of heart.

It lands in theaters on September 8th. If you’re brave enough to consider seeing this creepiness in theaters, start preparing yourself now.
