Iron Man’s next movie role is…talking to animals
Iron Man is back! Okay, so it’s not Iron Man exactly. But, the man who has expertly played Tony Stark for the last nine years is coming back for a new movie. Robert Downey Jr. just signed on to play Doctor Dolittle — yes, THAT Doctor Dolittle.
Doctor Dolittle was last played by Eddie Murphy in 1998 and a 2001 sequel, which feels like it happened an eon ago. But now, there will be a new film called The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle with RDJ starring as Doctor Dolittle — a doctor who can speak to animals.
The character is based on a series of children’s books so you’ll probably be able to enjoy this one with the whole family. And it should give RDJ yet another opportunity to demonstrate his well-documented wit.
Robert Downey Jr. has like, a bajillion franchises he’s a part of including Iron Man and The Avengers of course. He also plays Sherlock Holmes — so basically he’s a busy dude. But will his role as Doctor Dolittle become another franchise? We’ll probably have to wait a while before this film hits theaters.
But here’s the trailer from the 1998 film to give you an idea of what we might be able to expect from the upcoming film. We’re just substituting Robert for Eddie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
You can catch RDJ next as he reprises his role of Tony Stark in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. Somewhere in the midst of all of his work as Iron Man he’ll find time to learn to speak to animals and film The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. But the good news is that the world is getting more RDJ and that’s certainly something to get super excited about!
