This IRL sword of Gryffindor is the stuff of our “Harry Potter” dreams

Harry Potter nerds, rejoice! Godric Gryffindor’s sword now exists in real life, and it’s stunning. Made by the team at Baltimore Knife and Sword, this sword of Gryffindor has us wishing we could actually go to Hogwarts and one day vanquish the Dark Lord (Not that we don’t already wish that all the time).

Our homes might just be full of Harry Potter items and decorations, though none as cool as this. We might also wear our Hogwarts House sweaters on the regular, TBH. So, obviously, we’re drooling over this replica of the sword of Gryffindor.

The sword is legendary. It appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; Harry uses it to kill the Basilisk. Years later, Neville uses it to kill Voldemort’s snake, Nagini (Also the last of Voldemort’s horcruxes; Neville, FTW).

Godric Gryffindor himself commissioned the sword, which is made of silver and rubies. The replica is as beautiful as you might imagine, even though it’s been crafted by Muggles.

In the video from Man at Arms: Reforged, Matt Stagmer and Kerry Stagmer construct the sword, and it’s mesmerizing. They reveal the whole process, and even with modern technology, it’s time-intensive (We can’t imagine what it would be a thousand years ago. Sure, Ragnuk the First – the goblin king who made it – might’ve had magic, but still).

This sword of Gryffindor is a replica of the one in the Harry Potter films. It’s the team at Baltimore Knife and Sword’s way of celebrating the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We kind of wish we had the skills to celebrate a movie release by crafting glorious weaponry.

The sword itself starts as a steel tube. Then it’s heated, pounded down and shaped into a sword. Finally, it must be smoothed, and sharpened into an actual weapon. The hilt is the most impressive part, though: it’s incredibly intricate. It features a wizard, lightning bolts, and magical creatures (including a griffin, obvs.).

The team created a mold for the handle, and crafted it out of actual silver. The rubies aren’t real, though: They’re replicas made of glass.

Rubies or no, this IRL sword of Gryffindor is amazing. The team has also made replicas of Arya Stark’s needle and a Hanzo katana from Kill Bill. With these gorgeous weapons, they’ve definitely forged their way into our hearts.
