This iPhone X optical illusion will blow your mind

We love a good optical illusion, and this iPhone X mind-bender created by Swedish artist Peder Norrby is a most-perfect Friday morning treat.

Norrby is fascinated by creating the seemingly impossible — and better yet, he’s then able to explain his creations so we better understand what we’re seeing and why our brains process it the way they do.

The illusion in question looks like, in his words, a “portable hole.” He created a 2-D image that looks 3-D — and it essentially looks like the phone screen is a bottomless hole with actual depth that you can reach inside.

Norrby explained that the new features on the iPhone X are what make it possible.  “No post effects, all in-camera,” he clarified on his website. His first attempt at this type of art included a “collection of glitches and surreal scenes in iOS Maps,” and we’ve never seen anything like it.

Roughly an hour after posting, Norrby made sure to explain his work.

In the video, he says he’s going to publish the app, called “The Parallax View,” for those interested in trying at home. He’ll also provide the source code for those who are also into coding.

We have a feeling Norrby is an artist — and a coder — we should all be keeping an eye on in the coming years. We predict some majorly big things ahead for him, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
