Intro to GYLT: Get Your Life Together Days
Hey, Erin Mallory Long here. No, I did not become a self-help guru but that doesn’t mean I can’t self-help you!
I don’t know what that means either.
Anyway, for several years I’ve been classifying my days where I get sh*t done as GYLT days. Conveniently pronounced “guilt” – these are Get Your Life Together days.
These days can come along for any number of reasons. Maybe you’ve been really busy with work or school and have let dishes pile up in the sink. Maybe you haven’t been working lately and have turned your home into a weird nest of garbage and mess that vaguely smells like human sweat. The point is, I don’t know your life but I do know that assigning yourself a GYLT day is just the ticket!
I qualify something as a GYLT day if it involves a To Do list mostly comprised of chores and errands. If you’ve been putting off mailing in your car registration because they send it WAY EARLIER than its due, or if you want to get a headstart on Mother’s Day and beat your stupid over-achieving sister, a GYLT Day is what you do.
On a recent GYLT Day I hung pictures around the apartment, I wrote a piece I’d been putting off, I organized photos on my laptop and I went grocery shopping! Perfect!
If you didn’t grow up pre-disposed to Irish Catholic guilt as I did, you may not need to call this a GYLT day but any way that you can Get Your Life Together is always going to be useful to all aspects of your life.
It’s how you can meet your deadline and get that jacket cleaned, finally – because who has money for dry cleaning every month? – and how you can make sure you don’t end up on an episode of Hoarders.
If you participate in a GYLT day please find me here or on twitter @erinmallorylong and let’s bond over it!
