The latest ‘Into the Woods’ trailer just got us really stoked for Christmas
We knew Into the Woods was going to be a big deal. Then we watched the newest trailer (and watched it again and again) and decided it’s going to be THE movie of the holiday season. Seriously folks, it’s not only really creepy in a good way, it’s like a game of name-that-celebrity-in-a-fairy-tale costume. (OK, we just made up that game, but it’s a good one.)
Rob Marshall’s Into the Woods might seem like your typical fairytale musical, but it’s got a little bit of a dark twist. Basically, if the The Princess Bride was a sing-along movie, it’d probably look a lot like this. Sold yet? The movie-musical is adapted from Stephen Sondheim’s 1987 musical of the same name and Disney (who’s producing the movie) has assured fans again and again that it’s still got the darker elements, even though now it seems well on its way for a place in the Magic Kingdom. Maybe it’ll eventually end up there, but the songs will also end up stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
The movie boasts an impressive ensemble, with Meryl Streep playing The Witch, Johnny Depp playing The Wolf, Anna Kendrick plays Cinderella, Chris Pine plays her prince and Emily Blunt and James Corden play the Baker and the Baker’s wife. From that list you might be like, who is James Corden? Be prepared to start seeing a lot more of him come next year: He’s replacing Craig Ferguson for the Late Late Show. Talk about an impressive group of people in costume. But wait, here’s how they look in the movie:
So far, all previews of the movie have been sans-singing, but the trailer that dropped earlier today features LOTS of singing. And it is wonderful. We get a closer look at the characters, what they want, what they get, and then what they realize they don’t actually want (poor Cinderella, I’m crying already).
