An interviewer suggested that Taylor Swift needed to take a shower, and Swifties are revolting on Twitter
Taylor Swift is a busy woman. She’s currently traveling the states on her Reputation World Tour, performing her heart out and surprising fans with special guests like Troye Sivan and her BFF Selena Gomez. And if that wasn’t enough, on Sunday, May 27th, she performed a set at BBC’s Biggest Weekend in Swansea. Swift puts a ton of sweat into her live performances — literally. So you can imagine why people were offended on her behalf after an interviewer told her to take a shower. Who does that?!
“I think you need to have a shower now,” BBC 1 reporter Greg James told Swift after her Biggest Weekend set. Even though James meant the comment lightheartedly, it might not have been the best way to joke around with the singer.
Swift, being the total pro she is, didn’t appear offended. “I agree, and I’m not offended that you said that,” she replied casually. “There’s a lot going on and none of it’s good here.”
Even though Taylor laughed it off, her fans weren’t having it. And they’re absolutely correct — performers put so much into their stage shows, and commenting on their smell is simply disrespectful. Especially if they take time to speak with you right after entertaining such a large crowd. Plus, this was Swift’s first recorded interview in years. So the cringe-worthy comment feels extra inappropriate. false
Unsurprisingly, Swifties are outraged.

You all can say whatever you want it is still rude af to tell someone they might want to take a shower now

Who the fuck was that walker 'interviewing' Taylor Swift on BBC 1?? He implied that she smelled by saying she needed a shower?? WTF? #TaylorSwift #bigweekend #BiggestWeekend #bbc1

The next thing we'll see is Greg James actually making a public apology for a fcuking joke and this thing blowing out of proportion, only putting Swifties in a bad light and further pushing that "Swifties are the worst" narrative. I hate y'all.

Still, others think the whole thing was blown out of proportion.
Omg are people actually mad that Greg James told Taylor she needs a shower?! Did you see how sweaty she was in that outfit? Ed has said before Taylor has a British sense of humour. She wasn’t even offended by it. People need to chill. Not everyone is out to get her jfc pic.twitter.com/nKTd6Z3hsD

Either way, it’s an important reminder for reporters to think twice before using someone’s appearance as a joke to conclude an interview. Why not focus on the positive?
