This *paid* internship involves cruising around the world and snapping Instagram pics, and where was this when we were in college?!
Back in my youth, internships involved fixing the broken photo copy machine, sending Outlook invites, and going on the occasional coffee run. The concept of paid internships was a pipe dream because, as we were repeatedly reminded, the real payoff was networking and a line on our resumes. My, how times have changed — applications are currently being accepted for a paid internship of cruising around the world and snapping Instagram pics.
Yep, you read that right. The Royal Caribbean UK & Ireland recently announced an intern-ship (hehe) that involves sailing around the world for three weeks this summer and posting top-notch photos to Instagram.
Not only does this lucky intern get a free cruise, but he or she will be paid a cool £3,000 (almost $3,700) for the tough job of visiting and photographing some of the most beautiful places in the world.
We’d venture a guess that Royal Caribbean is being inundated with applications as we speak — the three-week excursion includes stops in Asia, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and New York.
Oh, and did we mention some of the perks are free access to climbing walls, restaurants, zip-wires, water slides, and swimming pools? (Just in case any reluctant applicants thought a free trip around the world wasn’t quite worth their time.)
Of course, applicants must be qualified — the qualifications are just a little different than most internships.
According to the job posting, applicants must own a smartphone and have “extensive knowledge of all 23 filters” so they can capture those perfect, eye-catching Instagram photos.
So, uh, I know internships are usually aimed at college students — but how does Royal Caribbean feel about interns who happen to be in their mid-to-late 20s? Asking for a friend.
