The Internet just rallied to throw this boy with Asperger’s the best birthday imaginable

March 20th was Odin Camus’ birthday, and as Odin says, it was a pretty special one. “Today, I am now a teen,” Odin said in a video message which you should 100% watch below. “I can have the title of a teen now.”

That’s right: he’s 13 years old. But unfortunately, none of the kids he knows were able to come to his planned party. Naturally his mom, Melissa Camus, was pretty heartbroken by that turn of events and Odin told a local news outlet that it made him feel “a bit lonely.” (sobs). So his mom posted a plea on Facebook asking for a little help to make Odin’s birthday special.

“Some of you have seen me post about my son, Odin,” Melissa wrote on the Peterborough Moms Swap And Buy Facebook page in Ontario. “His struggles with bullying, his difficulties with Aspergers. Well, today is his 13th birthday. And unfortunately, not one kid rsvp’d to his birthday “hang out” invite. . . . My question is — can some of you perhaps text his schmancy new cell phone, and wish him a quick happy birthday? I want his thirteenth birthday to feel special, and like people care about him.”

Melissa’s post was picked up by the local website PTBOCanada, and began to gain some pretty viral traction. According to CTV News, his “schmancy new cell phone” got quite the workout: he received over 4,000 text messages wishing him a happy birthday.

But that certainly wasn’t all. Local police officers showed up with birthday presents and let him meet the police dog, Wolf, since Odin is a passionate animal lover. A local cafe also gave Odin a free poutine dinner and custom artwork. But that wasn’t nearly the half of it.

After encouragement from the Facebook group Melissa originally posted to, she decided to plan an event for Odin and post details online.

Close to 6,000 people RSVP’d “yes.”

When Odin arrived at the event (driven in a limo donated by Personal Touch Limo), there were crowds of people there from all over. “I cried when I pulled into the parking lot and saw how many people there were,” said the woman driving the limo Roxanne King. “Odin said he felt bigger than Justin Bieber.”

Even those who couldn’t make it wanted to reach out. He received tweets from celebrities like Elijah Wood.

And Carrie Underwood.

As well as various sports teams.

He became a trending topic on Twitter. People posted on the Facebook event page lamenting that they couldn’t be there in person to celebrate, people baked him cakes.

“Wow it makes me feel amazing how much people care,” Odin told a news outlet on the scene.
