There’s one way the new Instagram update is VERY different from Snapchat

Instagram’s last major update has some people freaking out. The social media app came out with new add-ons that look very familiar. But the new Instagram update is very different from Snapchat Stories in a few major ways. Most importantly: You can keep on stalking your crush and no one will know.

As you know,  Instagram recently introduced the Stories feature. It’s strikingly similar to Snapchat. And as of last week, Instagram announced that this feature is expanding:

"Today we’re announcing two updates: live video on Instagram Stories and disappearing photos and videos for groups and friends in Instagram Direct."

This news has some people worrying that any screenshot they take on Instagram — including on their regular newsfeed — will send a notification to their crush, just like on Snapchat.

But according to Instagram’s official press release, you don’t have to worry about coming off like a stalker. Unlike Snapchat, Instagram won’t notify people if you’ve screenshotted their regular photos or their regular Direct Messages.

They’ll get a notification only if you replay or screenshot disappearing photos and videos.

As Instagram says: “Unlike other messages in Direct, these photos and videos disappear from your friends’ inboxes after they have seen them. And you’ll see if they replayed it or took a screenshot.”

Instagram also introduced a new feature that Snapchat doesn’t have: Live Video.

Swipe right from your feed to open the camera and click on “Start Live Video” button. You can broadcast for up to an hour. You can’t do that with Snapchat.

And here’s how to send Disappearing Photos and Videos.

Swipe right into camera. Click on the arrow to send a private message. Pick an already existing group or create a new one. Unlike other types of messages you send, these will disappear after the recipient has seen it.

Whether your account is set to public or private, you can only send disappearing photos and videos to people who follow you.

Although Instagram and Snapchat have some similarities, there is no arguing that Instagram is expanding quickly. Thus, the new Instagram update is very different from Snapchat Stories.
