#RecoveryIs: An Inspiring Look at Eating Disorder Recovery

According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, among others. Ninety-five percent of the people currently suffering are between the ages of 12 and 25. And those are just the people who actually report it.

Project HEAL is out to help change these scary statistics. The nonprofit organization, which was founded in 2008 by two teenage girls after they met while in treatment for anorexia, recently launched #RecoveryIs, a social media campaign to raise awareness for treatment of eating disorders. They’ve asked men and women who have recovered from an eating disorder, or know someone who has, to share photos of themselves demonstrating positive body image and uplifting experiences. Participants are asked to write their thoughts on a white piece of paper, take a picture holding their quote, and then post it on social media using the hashtag, #RecoveryIs.

The initiative is already garnering incredible response. Take a look at some of the inspirational photos that Project HEAL has already posted on their Facebook page:
