A look inside your favorite childhood toys. It isn’t always pretty.
As a kid, chances are you picked apart at least a few of your toys to see what’s inside.You know, took the head of Barbie and performed “surgery” on a stuffed animal or two. (Or was that just us?) And most likely you found weird plastic and stuffing, or a hollowed out core. Artist and sculptor Jason Freeny decided to take that innate curiosity about what’s inside toys and make some art with it—and his creations are crazy!
Freeny uses common kid toys as a base for epoxy skeletons and organs, each carved in intricate detail with tiny dentistry and pumpkin carving tools. The results are a little creepy but totally interesting! The attention to the specific fake anatomy of the toys is amazing, as you can see.
Apparently his fans think so, too. What started as a project that brought in $50 per piece on eBay is now fetching as much as $17,000 per creation. He’s also working to mass-produce and sell his work commercially. Freeny has sold his work to clients around the world, and Bored Panda reports that most of his clients are in the U.S., China, and Germany.
