This insane iPhone 7 rumor might actually be true

Turns out, our next iPhone might be entirely made of glass. Eeeek.

The news first presented as a tip, in last month’s Forbes, from a noted Apple analyst. Of course at that point you could be forgiven for thinking it was nothing more than a rumor. Shattered screens are a notoriously common complaint amongst iPhone users, so it was hard to believe that anyone would want one made entirely of the precarious material. But now the rumor has seemingly been confirmed.

Yahoo reports that at a shareholder’s meeting for Catcher Technology, long time makers of the iPhone chassis, chairman and chief executive Allen Horng said that “using a glass chassis would prove expensive and that Catcher requires ‘advanced processing technology’ to pull it off.”Horng adds that it will be “reinforced by a metal frame.” So technically the iPhone 7 won’t be ENTIRELY made of glass — just mostly glass. Which could actually be sleeker and more chic, who knows?

“As far as I know, only one [iPhone] model will adopt glass casing next year,” Horng states.

Plus, Tech Insider reports that the new iPhone will be thicker — the iPhone 7 is allegedly 7.2mm thick, while the iPhone 6 is 7.1mm thick.

So there you have it, the all glass iPhone is on its way — probably. It looks like it won’t be here until 2017, so you have plenty of time to absorb this information!
