I tried three different CBD-infused beauty products, and they became an important part of my self-care routine

Did you hear the news? CBD oil is making its way into the beauty industry, and it’s set to take over all your products. According to a recent New York Times article, cannabis-derived beauty products are rising in the industry, so I decided to put my detective cap on and see what all the hype was about. When Infinite CDB reached out to see if I was willing to try their products, I jumped at the opportunity.

But before we get down to the products, let’s get some of the nitty-gritty details about CBD oil out of the way. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in hemp and cannabis plants. Unlike THC, it does not give you a high. Instead, according to Healthline, researchers say CBD stimulates receptors in your brain and immune system to ease chronic pain. Which makes it sound like the perfect addition to a self-care routine.

Infinite CBD was kind enough to send me three products: Absolute Zero, Isolate Droppers, and Freezing Point.

(Pay no mind to how much of the Isolate Dropper I’ve already used, but here are all three products lined up.)

Before starting my investigation, I was vaguely skeptical about whether or not they would really be effective, much less related to beauty. That said, I was definitely intrigued. Let’s take a look at each of these products and how they worked for me.

1Absolute Zero, $27.50

As someone who gets computer-induced headaches as the day goes on, I was excited to try this powder from the get-go. Everyone knows that when you have a headache, you furrow your brow and rub your face, so I figured that if this actually worked, it might save me from a few wrinkles. All you have to do is sprinkle the powder on your food and you’re good to go. Couldn’t be easier.

On one particularly irritating day, I sprinkled Absolute Zero on my afternoon yogurt to see if anything would happen as I felt a headache coming on. It was subtle, but over the course of the next half hour or so, I found my muscles relaxing. While I can’t say I was high (I wasn’t) or even loopy, I was definitely feeling mellow.

A week later I had some with my breakfast before a meeting that I was particularly anxious about and I felt much more present and in my body. If you’ve ever taken lavender pills before, I’d say it’s a pretty similar experience. It’s not like taking a Xanax or smoking actual pot, but it did loosen the tension enough to help me take some deep breaths and relax.

2Freezing Point, $49.08

I was especially excited about the cream because I have bum knees, and when you have bad knees and spend most of your day climbing up and down subway stairs, shit gets real. One morning, I woke up feeling especially stiff, so I slathered this puppy on and headed off to work. I was hoping I’d get a bit of relief from the throbbing, but to be honest I think my knees are too far gone for this one.

Had I been sore and just stayed home resting, I think I would have felt a bit more relief, but when you’re on the go it’s tough to feel the effects. However, after a day of lugging around a particularly heavy purse, I slathered the cream on my shoulder and was pleasantly surprised to find that the achy feeling faded away faster than usual. I would recommend this for minor aches and pains, for sure. Just don’t expect a miracle.

3CBD Isolate Dropper, $140

This is pricier than the other two products, but the proof is in the pudding. I used this guy for hangovers, mid-afternoon computer headaches, anxiety, and when I wanted to have an extra chill night, so I can attest to its powers. You put a few drops, about six, under your tongue and let it melt. A few minutes later, you’re as cool as a cucumber.

Again, this product does not offer you an actual high, but it definitely relaxes and mellows you out. I was happy with how well it worked, especially since I was considering raising the dosage of my anti-anxiety and depression medication at the beginning of the year. The dropper just took the edge off of stressful situations and helped me relax when I wasn’t able to do so myself. It’s worth every penny for sure.

Now, how does it relate to beauty? Well, we all know how much I value self-care for one’s mental health, and I firmly believe that skin care and beauty fall in the realm of self-care. It all goes hand-in-hand. If you’re relaxed and not in pain, you remember to drink water, you moisturize, you avoid frown lines, and tension headaches. Which makes it seem quite worthwhile, right?
