This Indonesian designer makes the traditional modern for NYFW in the most beautiful way
Designers have been lighting up the runway all over the place at this year’s New York Fashion Week, where tons of incredible artists showcase their collections for Spring of 2017. But one of our favorites are the luxurious, shimmering pieces from Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan.
Anniesa Hasibuan makes beautiful, modern clothes, while staying true to her traditional roots.
Anniesa is a Muslim woman from a very traditional culture, and her background is deeply reflected in the beautiful pieces that she makes. According to the Jakarta Post, Anniesa’s fashion career launched only a year ago, and she is already showing at New York Fashion Week.
Up until last year, Anniesa only considered her passion for designing clothes to be a hobby, but now she has found international acclaim for her looks.
This was Anniesa’s first ready-to-wear collection, and we love how her modern pieces still reflect her culture.
All of her models wear head scarves, or hijab, which is traditional in Anniesa’s Muslim culture, but we love how she manages to make it look SO chic and modern. This fabulous peplum top and pants combo are absolutely street ready, and the billowing jacket adds an extra dose of drama.
Anniesa told Jakarta Post that it is absolutely one of her goals to show off the beautiful traditions of her country.
"I want to bring the Indonesian name to the fashion world, and use my clothes to introduce people to the different and diverse parts of Indonesia.
If these looks represent Indonesia, then we need to go immediately, because they are gorgeous.
