Indie music faves Angel Olsen, Mitski, the Mountain Goats, and more are releasing new music for an important cause
Recently, Meryl Streep quoted the late, great Carrie Fisher: “Take your broken heart, make it into art.” It was a call to artists in particular: Take their fears about the new year and the President-elect it brings. Turn them into action, political and otherwise.
Now, a coalition of musicians has stepped up to that call with Our First 100 Days.
The premise behind Our First 100 Days is simple: A murderer’s row of largely indie talent will release a new song for the first 100 days of our President-elect’s term.
For a minimum contribution of $30, you’ll have access to all 100 tracks. That money will go toward a number of progressive causes, including environmental protection, political action, and immigrant organizing.
Many of the artists behind Our First 100 Days exist at an intersection of marginalized identities. All are reliably excellent music makers covering an expanse of genres and tastes.
Want soul-destroying punk? Look out for Mitski, PWR BTTM, Bully, and Torres. Want emotional folk that’ll cleave your heart? Listen for Angel Olsen and the Mountain Goats. Atmospheric electronica? Avey Tare, Toro y Moi, and How To Dress Well will cover you. For everything else, there’s somebody else.
