The incredibly touching reason this waitress is trying to give a tip back to her customer

Just when you thought people couldn’t get any more wonderful, WJTV came out with a story this week about one waitress in Mississippi who made it her mission to return a particularly meaningful trinket to one of her customers. Elizabeth Barlow, a waitress at Margaritas Restaurant in Clinton, was working her usual shift one afternoon when she noticed something rather unusual about one of her tip piles. One of her patrons had paid in single dollar bills, one of which had a curious message scrawled across it: “In memory of our son, Chance Formby. October 27th 1984 to August 6th 2011.”

She explains: “I immediately went back out there and [the customers] had already left. And so a few minutes later I took a picture of [the dollar bill] and posted it on Facebook on Real Talk Clinton to see if anybody who came in that night might have misspent it.”

Barlow posted a photo of the bill to her Facebook with the caption: “If you came in tonight and tipped in ones, I have this one. Please come and get it. I don’t want to keep it. I think it’s important to you.” Cue the happy tears.

While the customers in question have yet to reach out to Barlow, her post has attracted hundreds of comments and shares. everyone wants to know the status of the bill and whether or not it makes its way back to Chance’s parents.

As people all around the globe chime in with their opinion on this touching tale and express their hope that the Internet will be able to reconnect the dollar with its owner, I can’t help but feel blown away at the kindness that exists. Barlow didn’t have to run after these customers or post the photo to the Clinton Facebook page, nor did strangers from across Mississippi have to share her post or actively try to track down its owners. They chose to help out simply because they wanted to make two other human beings feel good, not because they were being offered any sort of reward. And for that, I think we can all be thankful.

Here’s to hoping that Chance’s parents find their way back to Barlow’s restaurant and recover this priceless trinket.
