Oh no! “The Mindy Project’s” Ike Barinholtz broke his neck while filming a movie

Our parents always warned us about breaking our necks when we did just about anything adventurous. It looks like The Mindy Project’s Ike Barinholtz didn’t heed mom and dad’s warnings. According to People.comBarinholtz broke his neck about five weeks ago while filming his latest filmThe Pact.

The actor was shooting his own falling stunt, and in the process fractured a vertebrae in his neck. Since the injury, Barinholtz has been bound to a neck brace to stabilize the area and let the fracture heal.

Kudos to Barinholtz for filming his own stunts. But now we know why professional stunt doubles are a thing in Hollywood.

But the neck brace is not hindering his role on the next (and final) — *sheds tear*) season of The Mindy Project. People.comreported that the brace is currently being worked into the script.

"After the accident, I talked to Mindy [Kaling] and we agreed that the only option was writing it into the show," Barinholtz told the site. “Luckily, on The Mindy Project I play a character who could break his neck falling out of his bunk bed and it’s completely believable."

Thanks to Barinholtz’s sense of humor, the accident is not getting him down. Yes, the “incredibly stylish” neck brace, as he describes it, is inconvenient. But he realizes that the result could have been a lot worse. Barinholtz went on to say,

"Sometimes it takes getting hurt to realize how lucky you are to have great people in your life. My family has been taking amazing care of me, and Mindy and all the folks at the show have been so kind. Also, many friends have sent lots of food which is great — but I can’t exercise, so in a way, it’s exceptionally cruel.

Fair. We’re glad Barinholtz is on the mend and can’t wait to see that neck brace in action come September’s season of The Mindy Project.
