Iggy Azalea Revealed Her Baby Son’s Name—and It Has a Sweet Tie to His Mom
Update, July 15th, 2020, 9:41 a.m. ET: Just over a month since she announced she’s a new mother, Iggy Azalea revealed her baby son’s name. In a post to her Instagram on July 14th, Azalea—also known as Amethyst Amelia Kelly—shared an audio recording of she and her baby “talking” to each other. There’s no video, but the audio appears over a black screen with the words “Amethyst and Onyx,” a clear indication that her son’s name is Onyx.
Mom Amethyst and Baby Onyx share gemstone-inspired first names, which is a super sweet tribute to their connection.

The rapper been very private about details about her son, including opting not to share any photos (which is totally her right!), but we love this sweet reveal of his unique name.
Original post, June 11th, 2020: Congratulations are in order. Iggy Azalea—also known as Amethyst Amelia Kelly—confirmed on Wednesday, June 10th, that she’s the new mother to a son. Though she’s being private about many of the details, she posted a sweet Instagram Story message about the happy news.
“I have a son,” Azalea began her post.
From there, the rapper went on to say that she waited a little bit, though the timeline isn’t clear, before revealing the news to the public.
“I kept waiting for the right time to say something,” she wrote, “but it feels like the more time passes the more I realize I’m always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world.”
Though she’s scarce with details, Azalea makes it 100% clear that it’s more about that anxiety and her desire for privacy than keeping her son a secret.
“I want to keep his life private but I wanted to make it clear he is not a secret & I love him beyond words,” she wrote, ending the post with a simple blue emoji heart.
It’s not clear if she was pregnant and gave birth to her son or if she used a surrogate or adoption—nor, honestly, is it any of our business. Azalea also doesn’t note how old her new son is, and it’s entirely possible that, in an effort to maintain privacy, she won’t reveal any of these further details.
Azalea did shut down pregnancy rumors in April 2019 and as recently as December, when she posted a bikini picture amid speculation that she was either expecting a child or had recently given birth. She has been dating rapper Playboi Carti since 2018, with plenty of rumors that the couple is engaged; however, she and Carti have both been fairly private about their relationship. Azalea doesn’t note her son’s father in her announcement post.
Congratulations to Iggy! We’re thrilled that she’s so happy about welcoming her son into her life, and she doesn’t owe the public any further information.
