Whoa: identical twin sisters gave birth on the SAME day at the SAME time

Like many twins, Leah Rodgers and Sarah Mariuz have always been close. Growing up, Leah was a tomboy, while Sarah liked traditionally girly stuff, but the sisters were otherwise identical — and inseparable. They eventually moved to different cities and pursued different life paths, but last Thanksgiving, they both had the same big announcement to make to the rest of their family: they were pregnant.

Leah knew her sister’s secret as soon as Sarah showed up at the door. “I had this crazy twin intuition — I call it my ‘twintuition’ — and I knew she was pregnant, too,” she told Today. Sarah let her older (by 11 minutes!) sister make her announcement first, though. “I wanted Leah to have her moment of sharing her news,” she said, “rather than me just saying, ‘Me too!’”

It would have been cool enough just being pregnant at the same time, but Sarah and Leah found out their pregnancies were nearly identical too: they were due four days apart.

Last Thursday, the twins’ babies decided they wanted to have the same birthday, and man were they precise about the timing. Leah had her little boy at 1:18 a.m. in Denver, while Sarah gave birth to her little girl at 1:18 a.m. in La Jolla.

Sounds like these babies wanted to be twins, too and settled on the next best thing: same birthday, same birth time, identical twin moms. Hey, whatever works! All the mamas and babies are doing well and looking forward to getting the chance to meet each other.
