ICYMI: Jon Stewart’s reaction to Caitlyn Jenner is the best thing you’ll ever see

On Monday, Vanity Fair announced that their July cover star would be none other than Caitlyn Jenner — previously known to the world as Bruce.

While there have been many voices lending their support and acceptance (such as Jenner’s family and several other celebrities), Jon Stewart pointed out on Tuesday night’s episode of The Daily Show that the American media’s so-called “acceptance” has been, well, pretty sexist in their coverage.

“It’s really heartening to see that everyone is willing to not only accept Caitlyn Jenner as a woman, but to waste no time in treating her like a woman,” Stewart said at the beginning of the segment, entitled ‘Brave New Girl.’ “You see, Caitlyn, when you were a man, we could talk about your athleticism, your business acumen — but now you’re a woman, and your looks are really the only thing we care about.”

The show then played a montage of several news outlets scrutinizing the Vanity Fair cover, asking questions about whether or not Caitlyn Jenner is “hotter” than Kris Jenner, or if she has a “better body” than Kim Kardashian. You know, the kind of questions that unnecessarily pit women against each other.

Caitlyn Jenner herself even addressed this issue in an upcoming clip from the show I Am Cait, which will air on E! Sunday, July 26. “You start learning the kind of the pressure that women are under all the time about their appearance,” she said.

The segment clearly shows, the American media still has a long way to go when it comes to scrutinizing women in Hollywood for their looks. As Jon Stewart summed up: “Congratulations. Welcome to being a woman in America.” Check out the Daily Show segment below. It’s brilliant.
