The iconic Brawny man is being replaced by a woman for an empowering reason
Step aside, Brawny man. There’s a new flannel-shirt-wearing person in town — and this time, she’s female.
That’s right, the paper towel company has embraced Women’s History Month by featuring a woman on the front of their packaging. As Brawny’s website explains:
In honor of Women's History Month, our limited-edition pack has The Brawny Man stepping aside to give women the spotlight.
While we kind of wish this change would be a forever thing, we still have to commend the paper towel brand for using the month of March as a time to focus on women.
However, that’s not the only thing Brawny is doing. Along with their parent company Georgia-Pacific, Brawny has created an entire Women’s History Month campaign. The theme? Strength has no gender.

Give us a paper towel, we’re tearing up!
The campaign will benefit the female gender directly since Brawny is contributing $75,000 to Girls Inc. Operation SMART, which is focused on developing girls’ interest in STEM subjects — science, technology, engineering, and math.
Brawny is also featuring notable women in the STEM world — like Dr. Patty Lopez, who is a senior platform applications engineer at Intel — in a video series for Women’s History Month.

But the focus of #StrengthHasNoGender isn’t just on STEM. As of the initial launch of the campaign, there were seven videos featuring pioneering women in their fields. Like college senior and self-taught coder Brittany Wenger, oral surgeon and first woman to graduate from her Ivy League college Dr. Anna Kornbrot, and first black female combat pilot in the U.S. Armed Forces Vernice Armour.

Each and every one of these women’s stories deserve to be told — until one day, it won’t be groundbreaking for a woman to be doing what these women have done. And we thank Brawny for using their platform to make us think about challenging gender roles this Women’s History Month.
