Wait, iceberg lettuce ~isn’t~ the least healthy leafy green?!?!

If you’re a fan of salad (or just lettuce in general), you’ve heard it repeated endlessly: Iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value whatsoever. It usually appears in fast food salads, or atop a burger (unless you simply toss it aside). But it turns out that you could be wasting some excellent nourishment right there because, apparently, iceberg lettuce is better for you than we thought.

According to a report by Business Insider, iceberg lettuce is one of the top ten healthiest lettuce options out there.

The report used data from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) rankings of powerhouse foods, which it cross-referenced with each lettuce’s nutrient density. And while most of the results are as expected (with spinach and kale topping the list in terms of health), it’s totally shocking to see iceberg lettuce make it on the list at all. And yet according to the report, it’s got a healthy amount of vitamin C. Of course, you’d need to eat 33 cups to get your daily dose of vitamin C, but still.
