An ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ TV Series Is Coming to Scare You

And the 'Gossip Girl' EP is taking the helm.

Horror fans, buckle up because today’s reboot news is cherry-picked just for you. After years of seemingly being, ahem, dead in the water, the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is officially a go, with Amazon reportedly giving the green light to a series based on the teen horror classic.

Reports have been swirling about some kind of reboot to the 1997 slasher flick (which was, itself, inspired by a 1973 YA novel of the same name by author Lois Duncan) for several years, and at long last, it’s finally happening. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Gossip Girl executive producer Sara Goodman is at the helm, serving as a writer and executive producer for the upcoming series.

“We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios, Sony Pictures TV Studios co-president Jason Clodfelter told THR.

“Neal Moritz and Original Film’s development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller,” his statement continued.

So far, there are few details about the series other than that it will “share a premise” with the original, but we’re all here for female-led horror and all the surprises we’re sure Goodman has in store.

There’s no premiere date just yet, so we’re sending our spookiest vibes out into the universe that some of the original cast members (including our ‘90s faves Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Brandy, and more) have some involvement with the new series.

There’s plenty of material to work with, given that the original film spawned two sequels of its own. (Yes, there’s 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and the oft-forgotten, direct-to-video I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer).

As for us, we’ll be dusting off our slickers and putting on Helen’s Croaker Queen crown as we patiently await more news about the series.
