This “Hunger Games” star wants the movie to get a “Fifty Shades” treatment, and we have all of the questions
In a weird, weird twist, Sam Claflin wants The Hunger Games to get the Fifty Shades of Grey treatment. In case you didn’t realize, Fifty Shades of Grey started off as Twilight fan fiction, which accounts for a lot of the weird gender power dynamics, which are definitely a carry-over from the popular vampire series. Pride Source asked Sam Claflin if he was aware that there is a ton of fan fiction on the internet featuring him, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, and turns out, he’d only just recently learned about fan fiction…and he’s pretty open to the possibilities it presents.
"Fan fiction is one of those things I wish I knew more about. Someone was telling me that Fifty Shades of Grey was based on Twilight fan fiction. I didn't realize there was an underworld with these kind of amazingly imaginative ideas. I had no idea! But I love Liam as much as I love — in fact, I love Chris Hemsworth. I love the entire Hemsworth family. I say we get all of us involved and we do a Fifty Shades of Grey. We can make it a reality."
First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate that Sam Claflin is so ready to praise the creativity of fanfic writers. So often, transformative works get a bad wrap, and not to say there isn’t bad fan fiction, but it’s also a really valid, interesting form of media engagement — and a way for people to explore themes and characters in media that get neglected.
Second of all, let’s take several moments to appreciate what a Fifty Shades of Grey-style film starring these three gentlemen would look like, because it’s worth your time. Like, a lot of your time. Like, wow.
