“Humans of New York” is turning into a TV show

If you’re like us, then you love “Humans of New York.” Lovingly referred to as HONY, the Facebook page alone has over 17 million likes, and with good reason. HONY is what it sounds like, plus more; it’s a way for us to connect with people who are like and unlike us on a human level. The creator and photographer of HONY, Brandon Stanton, has traveled the world capturing what it is that makes humans, well…humans!
Currently, Brandon is taking his wildly successful blog and book series to video, thanks to Facebook, and we’re already crying.
The show will feature 1.200 interviews conducted by Brandon and filmed by cinematographer Michael Crommet, which take place over the last four years.
On the HONY Facebook page, Brandon announced that he would be creating a HONY television show to Watch on Facebook, the platform’s venture into television. He explained:
“I’m often deeply moved by the people I meet. Or they make me laugh. Or they make me think. And I always do my best to recreate the experience through photos and words. But I always knew that video would provide the closest thing to ‘actually being there.'"
Instead of posting these videos, Brandon revealed that he held onto them so he could one day use them for a special project such as this one. Overall, his goal is not to make a TV show that’s based on HONY. Instead, he wants the show to be Humans of New York.
We’re already excited about all the amazing people we’ll be learning about on this show. And while we may not know when it’s coming out, we’ll be watching Facebook like a hawk so we don’t miss it.
We’re not sure if one person can save the world, but we’re pretty sure HONY is getting there — one interview at a time.
