Humans dress up their cats as Totoro, win the Internet (obviously)
Say hello to your new favorite activity for you and your cat: dressing them up like Totoro. You know Totoro right? He’s the magical gigantic cat-like creature in the 1988 Japanese film My Neighbor Totoro who befriends two girls, Satsuki and Mei. In the movie, the girls have recently moved to a new house to be closer to their mom (who is staying in a hospital for a mysterious illness), and it’s there they discover the enigmatic Totoro! It’s a wonderful, whimsical movie, but even if you’ve never seen My Neighbor Totoro or My Friend Totoro (which you really should) you’ve probably seen the big, lovable creature before. And now, you can start seeing him in your cat every single day.
This Totoro cat dress-up trend started in Japan, and now we’re going to borrow it. Totoro’s got two pointy ears, which translate perfectly to the back of a cat’s head. These cats become Totoro with just a few pieces of cut out paper and voila! Now you’ve got your own fluffy, magical cat. One person even used googly eyes instead of paper ones, and that’s really taking this cat dress-up party to the next level.

Even though I can’t read Japanese, the users who have tweeted these images uses lots of the laugh/cry emoji, and that translates perfectly for us. We agree, laugh/cry emoji indeed.
So talk to your cat (after you find your cat, just in case they’re hiding, which they probably are —because cats) and ask if you can borrow them for a sec for a fun project. Who wouldn’t want to play pretend with Totoro?
