Katy Perry and America Ferrera will be honored by the Human Rights Campaign for their advocacy work in the LGBTQ community
International Women’s Day may have been yesterday, but for us at HelloGiggles, it’s always International Women’s Day. That’s why we’re so excited to learn that Katy Perry and America Ferrera will be honored at the Human Rights Campaign Gala Dinner on March 18th. Both women will be recognized for their work towards equality, specifically in the LGBTQ community. Katy Perry will be receiving the HRC’s National Equity Award for being an advocate for LGBTQ equality on and off stage, and for her efforts on the campaign trail.
Katy has always been outspoken about how important inclusion is, and as an incredibly influential role model for young people especially, this award is a milestone for the performer.
America Ferrera will be receiving HRC’s Ally for Equality award. America is a staunch humanitarian, speaking at events like the Democratic National Convention and the Women’s March on Washington, and taking her opinion to her own Instagram and social media. America’s unwavering commitment to representation and equality is inspiring!

The event will take place in Los Angeles and will draw attendees like Lena Dunham, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and singer/songwriter Troye Sivan. It will be honoring these individuals, along with others who have taken strides in moving this country into a more equal, open, and accepting future. The Human Rights Campaign is the United States’ largest LGBTQ civil rights advocacy group, so you know this event is going to be legit.
We can’t wait to hear what Katy and America say when they accept their awards!
