How to watch The Romanoffs —the series about potential Romanov descendants from the creator of Mad Men
It’s been over three years since Mad Men went off the air, but creator Matthew Weiner has been busy. His latest project, The Romanoffs, is a highly-anticipated new anthology series headed to Amazon Prime. The first two episodes are slated to premiere on Amazon’s streaming platform today, October 12th, and we can’t wait to see what the series has to offer.
Each of the eight episodes within the first season of The Romanoffs follows a potential (fictional) heir to the famous Russian Romanov family. Weiner picked up where the old myth/conspiracy theory left off—that a Romanov family member survived the 1918 slaughter of Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra, and their five children. His characters believe they are the modern remnants of Russian royalty.
In true anthology form, viewers will watch a new plot line each week, each one revolving around a new possible Romanov descendant.
"Every single episode—and there will be eight—has a different cast, a different story and a different location," Weiner told HollywoodReporter.com in March 2017. "The thing that holds them together is that all of the stories involve people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Romanov [family]."

The Romanoffs has a lot to live up to. Mad Men ran for seven seasons, and in that time racked up numerous Emmys, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice awards. Reviews of the new Amazon Prime series have been a bit shaky—the BBC wrote that The Romanoffs is “self-indulgent and wrong-headed,” yet the site admits the show has the potential to grow after the first two episodes.
According to TownAndCountry.com, Mad Men alums Christina Hendricks and John Slattery make appearances in the series, and honestly that alone is enough to make us want to watch.
