If you live in chilly Chicago, you *might* be able to eat for free — here’s how

Anyone who has ever spent time in Chicago during the winter months knows that the freezing temps are no laughing matter. So, it only makes sense that in this seriously cold city, you can possibly eat for free. If you’re all about free food (and really, who isn’t?), you’re going to want to pay a visit to the Windy City’s chain restaurant Mather’s — More Than A Café.

Last week, Mather’s announced that during the frigid January and February months they’ll be “serving soup for the price of the temperature.”

And, because the temperature frequently drops below zero, customers may actually get money back for their purchases.

The chain’s assistant manager,Beth Zoeller, assured Mashable that customers will indeed have some change coming to them on the most frigid days.

Do customers actually take the change? Zoeller says some people are happy to collect some extra coins, while others decline.

This isn’t the first year Mather’s has run the promotion, but thanks to global warming, Chicago is having an unseasonably warm winter this year. Still, when the temp inevitably drops dramatically, you know where to go for free soup.
