How did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle meet?
Now that we know Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged (cue: screams of excitement), many of us actually now have a lot of questions. Like, how did it happen? When did it happen? And are we invited to the wedding?
And of course, how exactly did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle meet, anyway?
The answer, it turns out, is pretty regular — through friends. The prince, 33, and Markle, 36, apparently met in July 2016 in Toronto after being introduced through mutual friend Markus Anderson, a consultant for the member’s club Soho House. Anderson is from Canada, and Markle has described him as one of her “closest friends in the world.”
During an interview with reporters at Kensington Palace, Harry and Markle played coy with how exactly the proposal (which apparently happened in London) went down, but did assure everyone that it was “romantic.” The Prince also told journalists in attendance that he knew Markle was “the one” the “very first time we met.”
So. Much. Awwww.
And in case there was any doubt in your mind, it appears as though friends and family are thrilled about the union. Prince William and Kate Middleton released a statement in light of the news:
“We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.
Oh, and a certain other famous couple also recently expressed their excitement:
Michelle and I are delighted to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their engagement. We wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness together.
