How one school district is participating in the Women’s Strike
A school district in North Carolina is shutting down school for the A Day without a Woman Strike.
The district made the call to cancel school after it became clear that they wouldn’t have enough staff to keep schools running on March 8th, when women all over the country are scheduled to sit out work, school, and shopping to express their support for women’s rights.
More than 75 percent of school district staff members are women, and the district expects the majority to participate.
“Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools values and supports its female employees. However, the decision to close schools is not an endorsement of the planned demonstration,” they wrote in a statement. “The decision is made solely to avoid operating school on a day when there are insufficient staff to provide instruction and basic school services.”

The A Day without a Woman Protest is a follow-up to January’s Women’s March on Washington. It echoes the A Day Without Immigrants Protest, in which immigrants sat out work, school, and shopping to protest President Trump’s immigration policies.
