Here’s how much money all the “Harry Potter” movies have made to date and…WOW

As we prepare to feast our eyes on the sure-to-be-amazing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we can’t help but reminisce on the name that started it all – Harry Potter. The Harry Potter films have made a lot of money, as you can imagine, but it’s no surprise since we’ve basically grown up with The Boy Who Lived for decades now. And when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (or Philosopher’s Stone, depending on where you live) hit theaters 15 years ago, our cinematic lives were forever changed.

There are EIGHT films in the original film franchise, and that translates into, unsurprisingly, A LOT of money. But how much, exactly, you ask?

Welp. $6.5 Billion. That’s how much.

Time recently put together a breakdown of how much each film cost to make vs. how much it made in the world wide box office, and it’s PRETTY impressive. Here’s the entire list:

  • Budget: $125 million
  • Worldwide box office earnings: $974.6 million
  • Profit: $849.6 million

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II

And with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them set to blow the box office competition out of the water this weekend, we have no doubt the Harry Potter profits will continue to rise! And we’re sure that makes Gringotts’ goblins very happy.
