Hot Mulled Wine
Oh my gosh, there is so much snow here!
It has been years since I’ve had a white Christmas, and here it is, in full glory. For me, at least – half of the city doesn’t have power so it feels a bit cruel to be so excited, but there you have it. I’m excited. I love the snow. I just look outside and I want to run and make snow angels and absolutely cover myself in the stuff.
The flip side to my love of snow is my hatred of all things cold. It’s the thing that stops me from running out there barefoot, and that keeps me curled up inside watching everything turn white.
And if I do go outside, when I get in I immediately start making myself mulled wine. It’s the most wonderful soul warming drink, a simple affair to make, and something that will warm you’re toes almost immediately.
You just simmer some red wine and brandy with some spices on the stove for a while, and what comes out is a little bit of holiday magic, even after the holidays are over.
- 1 bottle Cheap Red Wine
- 1 cup Brandy
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 2 Cloves
- 1 Orange, cut into quarters
Over low heat bring the all the ingredients to a very low simmer (too high and you’ll burn off the alcohol! We don’t want that.)
Let it simmer away for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour.
Serve in mugs and be happy!
