What is Hope Hicks’s salary? Things you should know about the White House communications director

Update, 2/28/17, 2:36 p.m. PST: Today, February 28th, the New York Times reported that Hope Hicks has resigned from her position as White House communications director. Her last day has not been announced, and aides told the Times that Hicks’s departure was unrelated to her testimony before the House Intelligence Committee on February 27th.

Yesterday, February 27th, the New York Times revealed that White House communications director Hope Hicks told the House Intelligence Committee that she sometimes lies on behalf of President Donald Trump. On top of this, Hicks refused to answer questions about her time in the White House and Trump’s transition to president. Here’s what you need to know about the low-profile White House official.

1 She makes a lot of money.

Hicks’s salary is the most a White House aide can make. She nets $179,700 annually, according to a July 2017 report released by the White House.

2 Hicks used to be a model,

She was once a model for Ralph Lauren, along with her sister Mary Grace. She also appeared on the cover of the Gossip Girl spinoff series, The It Girl.

3 Her home state is in Connecticut.

Hicks grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she played lacrosse at Greenwich High School.

4 She’s the youngest communications director ever.

The 29-year-old is the youngest person to ever serve as White House communications director. She was promoted to the position after Anthony Scaramucci’s short-lived term in 2017.

5 This is her first political position.

Hicks’s background is in public relations. After starting out at a private firm, she met Ivanka Trump, who hired her to work for the Trump Organization in 2014.

6 Her boyfriend resigned over physical abuse allegations.

On February 7th, White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter resigned after his ex-wives accused him of domestic violence. Porter was reportedly dating Hicks, who helped draft the official White House response to the allegations.

7 She has been connected to the misleading statement about Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer.

In May, it was revealed that Trump Jr. had met with a Russian lawyer in 2016 who promised to give him information about Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Trump officials crafted a statement that the meeting was mostly about a Russian adoption program, but an email exchange released by Trump Jr. contradicted this. Hicks was present when the statement was written, but declined to tell the House Intelligence Committee about her involvement.

8 She has tweeted on behalf of Trump.

While working as Trump’s press secretary during the 2016 presidential campaign, Hicks reportedly typed tweets dictated by the candidate.

Although she doesn’t often make headlines, Hicks is deeply involved in the Trump administration. We’ll be watching to see how the communications director affects the ongoing Russia investigation.
