Hooray for these super special (and super rare!) all-girl quintuplets!
Quintuplets are super, super rare. In fact, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, the number of quintuplets (and other higher-order births) was only 66 in 2013.
But all-girl quintuplets? That’s been unheard of for over 50 years. In fact, the last recorded all-girl quintuplets were born in 1969 . . . at least, as of last Wednesday.
On April 8 at 4:41PM, Danielle and Adam Busby welcomed five baby girls into the world at the Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston, according to KPRC. The girls were born via C-section at approximately 28 weeks.
The ecstatic parents gave them some pretty fabulous names, IMHO: Ava Lane, Hazel Grace (that TFioS reference did NOT go unnoticed!), Olivia Marie, Parker Kate, and Riley Paige.
The couple had been having a difficult time getting pregnant, so they used intrauterine insemination . . . and they certainly got a few more babies than they bargained for. “We are so thankful and blessed,” Danielle told KPRC.
The couple, who also have a 3-year-old daughter named Blayke whom they also had via intrauterine insemination, have been sharing their experiences on their blog, It’s A Buzz World.
Previously, it had been thought that this was the first recorded case of female quintuplets in the U.S., but CNN discovered that in 1959, quintuplet girls were born to Charles and Cecilia Hannan. Tragically, all of the baby girls passed away within 24 hours.
However, all of the Busby babies are healthy and going strong! “The baby girls did well during the delivery and are currently requiring only modest support of their breathing,” Dr. Jayne Finkowski-Rivera, who assisted with the delivery, told KPRC. “They were all in the appropriate weight range for their gestational age, which is due to their mother’s excellent efforts to have the healthiest pregnancy possible. They have made a strong start in life, and we are excited to watch them grow and mature.”
The Busbys have had their hands understandably full, but they posted a video to their blog on Sunday letting their followers know how the cute little ladies are doing. The parents sound exhausted, but so happy . . . and WE are so happy for the adorbs family of eight! Check it out to hear all about the process:
