‘Orange Is The New Black’ Already Won a Bunch of Emmys!

Rejoice, Orange Is the New Black fans! The beloved Netflix show nabbed a three statuettes at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday night. That’s a good sign for the performance of the show at the Primetime Emmys next week, too!

The series took home the prize in Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series for the episode “Tit Punch” as well as Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series. (Dear Emmy voters: We agree!)

But perhaps the biggest news is Uzo Aduba’s win as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the show.

A jubilant and emotional Aduba thanked her mother during her acceptance speech, nothing that she had come from Nigeria “to make a better life for her family.” Aduba also thanked the Orange Is the New Black cast and crew for creating an inclusive workplace. The show, Aduba said, is one “that lets everyone be represented in such a beautiful way.”

Later in the press room, Abuda reflected on her beautifully tearful acceptance speech: “I feel so full, that’s why the tears come out. I’m stuffed really. I’m beyond full. My cup runneth over right now. I feel absolutely all of those things: I feel full of joy, like a fountain. Mission accomplished.”

Three cheers for Aduba and Orange! Fans curious to see the whole ceremony on television can tune in on Sunday, August 24, when FXX will air a two-edited version of the accolades, the night before the Primetime Emmys show live on NBC. If the Creative Arts Emmys are any indication of Orange’s impact at the Primetimes, you can expect a lot more awards coming their way.
